The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is the federal institute within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). NIOSH is a research agency that focuses on the study of worker safety and health, and empowering employers and workers to create safe and healthy workplaces. A priority at NIOSH is to develop new knowledge in the field of occupational safety and health and to transfer that knowledge into practice. To do this, NIOSH conducts work-related research and makes recommendations to prevent worker injury and illness. The work done at NIOSH impacts every segment of the American workforce.
Position
This position is in the Field Research Branch, Division of Field Studies and Engineering (DFSE), located at the NIOSH location in Cincinnati, OH. The branch is recruiting for two fellows to serves as full-time Epidemiologists. This fellowship is a temporary appointment that lasts two years but may be extended. The fellowship appointments are non-status, non-permanent appointments. Salary will be based on education and experience and is eligible for benefits and is based on OPM requirements. Relocation expenses are not provided.
Job Description
The successful applicant will work with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, and other occupational health scientists conducting epidemiological research. The fellow will contribute to research pertaining to the causes and effects of health and disease conditions, for example cancers. The fellow will focus on identifying, analyzing, and reporting on emerging public health issues as they relate to occupational safety and health. The fellow draws upon a comprehensive knowledge of epidemiology to address novel or unusual problems not readily handled by conventional methods.

Basic Qualifications
Education: Degree Experience: Bachelor’s, graduate, or higher-level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.
In addition to the basic education requirement, applicants must have a master’s degree in a scientific field.
In addition to meeting the above requirements, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service.

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
Note: Degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Citizens of countries that have been determined by the U.S. Secretary of State to be State Sponsors of Terrorism will not be able to obtain a security clearance to work at CDC and should not be considered for this appointing authority.
