JOB DESCRIPTION
BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION ENGINEER
Provide the engineering skills and support to convert the design concept of the owners' plans to the project management team. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including the project managers putting the work in place, the owner's design team and reviewers, as well as the estimating team. This is a safety sensitive position.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Design all temporary construction activities necessary to put the final structure in place, such as temporary excavation support and shoring, overhang falsework, temporary support for formwork, etc.
Design bridge demolition procedures including load calculations.
Design erection plans for bridge superstructure elements.
Review shop drawings and other related engineering drawings.
Review all subcontractors' engineering submissions.
Assist the estimating team regarding concepts for temporary excavation support and bridge demolition.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFIC SKILLS Thorough understanding of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of bridges, roads, and other related structures.
Thorough understanding of civil engineering principles, practices, and tools.
Exceptional decision making and critical thinking skills, time management, accountability, prioritization skills, and communication skills.
Extremely detail-oriented and accurate.
The ability to collaborate with teams from the project management staff, the owner's design team and reviewers, and our estimating staff.
Proficient in computer-assisted design (CAD) and other design, data recording, and analyzation software.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
Professional Engineers License in the state of Pennsylvania.
Experience and ability to design temporary excavation support.
Five years of related experience preferred.
Knowledge of PennDOT and PA Turnpike specifications.
Knowledge in the use of industry standard software applications such as AutoCAD or similar.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to physically access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
Must be able to travel to various project sites.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Schedule: This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position requiring 40 hours per week, typically Monday-Friday, from 8:00am-5:00pm
Flexibility: Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to meet deadlines
Location: This position will primarily be based in our office, with the possibility of an occasional project visit.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The Bridge Construction Engineer will report directly to the President and Vice President. The Bridge Construction Engineer is expected to collaborate with the estimating team, project managers, and project foremen.
