JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: Culinary Intern

Reports to: Executive Chef

Supervises: Not applicable

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Job Summary

The Culinary Intern will assist the Executive Chef and kitchen staff in the preparation and execution of meals for members and guests of Greenville Country Club. This internship provides hands-on experience in a professional kitchen, including food preparation, menu development, and kitchen operations. The intern will gain valuable skills in a fast-paced, high-quality culinary environment while supporting the club’s daily dining operations and special events.

Essential Duties include, but are not limited to:

Trust & Teamwork

  • Work closely with the Executive Chef, Sous Chefs, and kitchen team to ensure high-quality food preparation and timely service
  • Assist in all areas of food preparation, including chopping, mixing, cooking, and plating, while maintaining high standards of food safety
  • Contribute to a positive kitchen environment by being a reliable, team-oriented staff member, assisting with daily operations and special events
  • Collaborate with the FOH team to ensure seamless delivery of meals during events and dining services

Effective Communication

  • Communicate effectively with kitchen staff, FOH personnel, and management to ensure smooth operations
  • Assist in providing feedback to the culinary team about food preparation processes, helping to improve efficiency and quality
  • Engage with kitchen leadership during menu development discussions, learning how to translate ideas into quality dishes for members

Innovation

  • Contribute creative ideas during menu planning sessions for seasonal dishes, banquets, or member events, under the guidance of the Executive Chef
  • Support to research and implementation of modern cooking techniques, assisting in experimenting with new ingredients, recipes, and plating presentations
  • Help develop new systems to enhance kitchen operations, such as inventory management or food prep efficiency, supporting a more organized and efficient kitchen

Balance & Appreciation

  • Ensure the kitchen is clean and organized, always adhering to health and safety standards
  • Assist with prep for club events, banquets, and member functions, balancing your time between regular duties and special assignments
  • Maintain proper stock levels of ingredients, ensuring the kitchen is always prepared to deliver high-quality dishes
  • Participate in staff meals and appreciation events, contributing to a positive, balanced work culture

Education and/or Experience

  • Currently enrolled in a Culinary Arts program or related field from an accredited culinary program
  • Previous experience in a professional kitchen setting, preferred

  • Passio for culinary arts with a desire to learn and grow in a fast-paced, professional kitchen environment
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure consistency and quality in food preparation and presentation
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure during peak dining hours, banquets, and special events

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for long periods, moving between stations and assisting with various kitchen tasks
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Manual dexterity to handle kitchen tools, knives, and equipment safely and efficiently
  • Ability to work in a hot, fast-paced kitchen environment, maintaining focus and attention to detail

  • Eager to learn and develop culinary skills under the guidance of experienced professionals
  • Flexible schedule, including the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays to support events and dining operations
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, capable of multitasking in a busy kitchen setting
  • Team-oriented mindset, with a positive attitude and the ability to collaborate with kitchen staff and other departments

Other Benefits

In addition to field experience, interns may be provided with housing, paid an hourly rate and can expect to work 40+ hours each week. Pro shop discounts, uniforms and a meal allowance are also provided. Interns must have their own transportation.
