Description / Position Overview PART-TIME - Parking Enforcement Officer I The City of Colorado Springs is ready to welcome a Parking Enforcement Officer I to their Public Works team!
This position will perform a wide variety of duties and activities to enforce the City's parking ordinances including issuing citations; investigating and initiating impoundment of vehicles in the City's lots; responding to citizen complaints of abandoned vehicles; and serving legal forms to traffic offenders and applying the "boot" to the vehicles of habitual parking ordinance offenders.

Anticipated Work Schedule: Saturday & Monday 11:00AM - 8:00PM; Sunday 1:00PM - 8:00PMHours/days may vary to ensure team coverage.
Essential Functions: - Enforces the City's parking ordinances by issuing citations to offenders
- Monitor driveways, fire hydrant areas, crosswalks, school zones, and other areas to ensure parking ordinance compliance
- Maintaining effective working relationships with merchants and residence of assigned patrol areas, answering questions, interpreting and explaining city policies
- Testifies in court as required; and maintains assigned vehicle and specialized equipment
- Respond to abandoned vehicle complaints
- Obtain vehicle listings using computer system
- Makes detailed inventory of the vehicle damages and contents; and provides towing company with pertinent information
- Serve offenders with the appropriate legal forms
- Install mechanical "boot" device to immobilize offender's vehicle
- Complete related documentation and verify through Municipal Court
Successful candidates will have - Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED)
- One year of full-time, professional experience in a related field
- Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education (OR) one year of relevant academic coursework beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for one year of required professional experience.
Ideal candidates will also have - Interpersonal and customer service skills to ensure positive interactions with the community
- The ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision
- Dedication to pass effective judgments
- Keen attention to detail
Additional Information The background check process for this position includes being fingerprinted. Fingerprints will be used to check the FBI's criminal history records. Physical Demands: Exerting up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly OR requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
