Safety Engineer
Summary: As a Safety Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety and compliance of systems, equipment, and processes. You will lead efforts to identify, assess, and mitigate risks and hazards, working closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement safety protocols. Your expertise will guide the design and operation of safe, efficient systems, ensuring adherence to industry regulations and company standards. You will be responsible for continuous improvement in safety practices, ensuring that both new and existing systems are optimized for safety and operational effectiveness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
General:
• Develop and execute testing protocols and validation procedures to evaluate the safety performance of systems and equipment.
• Support incident investigations with customers to identify and determine root causes and drive corrective actions.
• Guide successful completion of major engineering programs or conceives research in areas of considerable scope and complexity supporting the development and production of products and services.
• Select appropriate methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to resolve complex engineering issues.
• Work across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls.
• Maintain detailed records of safety assessments, test results, and regulatory compliance documentation.
• Provide training and guidance for team members on safety-related topics and best practices.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in safety engineering, standards, regulations and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Additional Requirements:
• Critical-thinking skills. Safety engineers must identify potential hazards and problems before they cause material damage or become a health threat. Thus, these engineers must be able to sense hazards to humans and property wherever they may arise in the workplace.
• Communication skills – Effective communication is crucial for conveying safety standards, protocols, and findings to sales, engineering, and management
• Observational skills. Safety engineers must observe and learn how operations function so that they can identify risks to people and property. This type of observation and learning requires the ability to think in terms of overall processes within an organization. Safety engineers can then recommend systemic changes to minimize risks.
• Problem-solving skills. In designing solutions for entire organizational operations. Engineer must consider processes from more than one system at the same time. In addition, they must try to anticipate a range of human reactions to the changes they recommend.
• Proficiency in reading, interpreting, and editing electrical schematics and diagrams.
• AutoCAD LT experience a plus.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Work well within a team environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft office programs including Excel, Outlook and Word.
• The candidate must be willing to travel to customer locations as required, with an estimated travel commitment of approximately 15% of the time.
Experience:
• Minimum of 3-5 years in safety engineering, risk assessment, or safety systems.
• Experience in industries like manufacturing, automotive, aerospace is often preferred.
Educational Requirements:
• Bachelor's or Graduate's Degree in manufacturing engineering, electrical engineering, or safety.
• TUV2T Certified
• Ability to complete SISTEMA reports and safety validation
• Extensive experience with risk assessments.
• Strict attention to detail and an eye for continuous improvement.
• Familiar with OSHA/ISO regulations and protocols.
