Job Description

Salary Range: $45.4100 - $69.8500 /hour. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, skill level, and education.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Triage Nurse provides professional telephone triage nursing services to Hoag Clinic patients. This role performs detailed evaluation of patient symptoms and determines urgency of patient condition, facilitates next steps in patient care, makes recommendations for escalation of care, and provides appropriate medical advice on treating symptoms. Provides patient education and incorporates available education material. Communicates changes in patient condition to health care provider. Responses to emergency situations. Collaborates with other members of the health care team to ensure quality patient care and confer when facing ethical and legal issues. Documents all nursing services provided in the patient record. Utilizes the nursing process based on research and evidence-based outcomes to meet patient care needs. Facilitates appropriate utilization of healthcare resources. Enhances the patient experience. Provides services in compliance with all applicable regulatory and professional standards, including the California Nurse Practice Act. Performs other duties as assigned. The Triage Nurse II also educates and guides other staff to solve complex patient care problems. Conducts and/or coordinates department orientation and training of new employees. Develops policies, procedures, standardized procedures, and protocols. Leads and coordinates innovate changes and improvements.

Education and Experience

Required:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Seven (7) years clinical nursing experience

Basic keyboarding skills and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word and Excel

Strong clinical documentation knowledge and skills

Preferred:

Two (2) years experience in an ambulatory care setting and/or in telephone triage

Knowledge of electronic medical record systems

Knowledge of patient registration, scheduling, and insurance verification processes

License Required

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in good standing in the State of California

Certifications Required

Current BLS certification
