CNC Operator
JOB SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Math Skills: Good math skills will help CNC machinists understand complex instructions, how schematics work and make sure items are designed and built correctly.
- Problem Solving Skills: CNC machinists will need to know why machines are not at peak performance, how to increase output and how to fix errors.
- Attention to Detail: CNC machinists will work with precision equipment. Being off by millimeters could be a critical error. Keen attention to detail is required.
- Mechanical and Technical Skills: Machines controlled by computers will need operators who understand CAD/CAM technology.
CNC Operator Job Duties:
- Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
- Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock.
- Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
- Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads.
- Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
- Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards.
- Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
- Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
- Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
- Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs using Gibbs CAD/CAM software. Act as the liaison between Engineering and Production departments resolving, with creative precision, a wide range of problems with new and existing production runs through thorough knowledge of programming, CNC operation, tooling and work holding,
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Works under the direction of the Lead Programmer and/or Supervisors
Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs using Gibbs CAD/CAM software.
Create, modify, and optimize work holding solutions for complex, multiple operation small parts.
Modify programs, make adjustments (tool offsets, etc.) to new and established job files on the machine.
Able to set up CNC Mills and Lathes with 1st article inspection. Includes boring jaws, reviewing and verifying program and blue prints, assemble and install tools.
Verification of parts by measuring, first-run part, and sample work pieces.
Reads and interprets blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine operating procedures and have knowledge of the manufacturing sequences and machining methods required.
Operate Equipment at a rate that equals or exceeds quality and efficiency standards as noted on the traveler.
Monitor cutting tools in machine spindle and notifies supervisor of tool wear and/or tolerance problems.
Starts machine and monitors display and machine operation to detect malfunction.
Change cutting tool and adjust coolant direction according to required machining sequence or to measure for conformance to blueprint specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
Notifies supervisor of any potential machine or tool problems and malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining. Cleans machine tools and parts.
Communicates with co-workers and supervisors to receive instructions and coordinate activities.
Responsible for proper use, operation and care of all tools, tooling, and inspection equipment. Must adhere
Through inspection (visual and mechanical) of parts as specified by Inspection Plan and/or Blue Print.
Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Okuma, Doosan, Vertical/CNC Broche, manual mill and lathes
3-5 years experience operating and setup of a CNC mill/lathe
Strong Knowledge of blueprint planning sheets and inspection tools
Organizational skills with a strong attention to detail
Ability to perform in a fast paced production environment
Fluent in English
